Candle Burning Information

Soy Wax Burn Times

Soy wax burns at a lower temperature than paraffin wax, providing you with longer burn times and, therefore, greater value. About 30% longer than regular paraffin Candles!

Tea light = ½ oz of wax - burning time - up to 8 hours
2 oz tin - burning time - 20 to 24 hours
4 oz jar - burning time - 40 to 48 hours
10 oz jar - burning time 100 - 120 hours
16 oz jar - burning time 160 - 192 hours

NOTE : Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4 inch for optimum burning. If wicks are longer the overall length of burning time will be reduced.

Candle Burning Instructions

When you light your candle for the first time it is very important to allow approximately one hour of burn time per inch of surface diameter, or until your candle has a complete melt pool, before extinguishing. (A melt pool is when your candle melts from edge to edge of your jar.)

This will set the candles "memory" and avoid your candle from tunneling down the center. It will also prolong the burn time of your candle. (Times may vary depending on room temperature and environment.)

Trim Your Wicks

Use a sharp wick trimmer or scissors to trim the wick. Using a dull tool will split the threads causing the wick to 'mushroom' excessively. Nana Cat’s Soy Candles are designed to be trimmed to 1/4 inch before each burn.

High Flame

If the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly the candle is more than likely burning in a draft or it's time to trim the wick. If you do not keep the wick trimmed and out of drafty areas, your candle will soot. Be sure to extinguish the candle before trimming or moving.

Soot

“All soot is not created equally”. Petroleum (paraffin) soot is created by carbon that has not burnt off.

You may have heard people say "Soy candles are 100% soot free". Although soy wax candles are virtually soot free when burned properly, no candle is 100% soot free. You may get some soot due to a long wick, draft in the room or even the lighter you are using to light the candle with. If you see that your candle is accumulating soot in your jar, extinguish the flame and trim your wick. Also once the jar has cooled down take a tissue or paper towel and gently wipe the soot out.

Remember: Soot can be prevented by keeping your wicked trimmed.

Weak Flame

If you trim your wick to short and your flame is weak or going out. Don’t fret, extinguish the flame and pour off some of the excess liquid wax into a safe container. Your flame will come back to life!

White, Smelly Smoke from Wick When You Blow Out the Candle

If you blow out the flame to extinguish your candle, it will cause the wick to smoke, (ruining the delightful aroma in your room), and may cause soot to cling to the warm rim of the jar.

Using a wick dipper will eliminate your candle from smoking when extinguishing your flame. Don't Blow, dip the wick, pull up & re-center with the wick dipper.

Candle Warnings and Tips

If your candle appears to be burning off center you can correct this by repositioning the wick slightly. To do so, extinguish the candle and allow wax to cool until slushy; using a "wick dipper" gently guide the wick back to center or toward the side that needs more heat before relighting.

For best performance, burn candle until wax melts evenly across container, not exceeding 4 hours. Discontinue use of candle when only 1/2 inch of wax remains in bottom of jar.

Always burn your candles on a heat resistant surface. Keep burning candle away from curtains, walls, small children, pets & flowers, or any item that could catch fire!

Never put a topper on a newly lit candle, wait till it burns 1/2 way down or use it for decoration. Topper will get hot!

When burned properly, you will be able to enjoy a long lasting, clean burning, fragrant soy candle.
